SRVIC Summer Classes 2010

Lessons from the Lives of the Prophets (Peace be Upon Them)
This class explores the life and times of the blessed prophets of Allah mentioned in the Holy Qur'an from Adam (peace be upon him) to Jesus Christ (peace be upon him). The primary text for this class will be Qisaas al-Anbiyaa by Imam Abu Fidaa Isma'il bin Kathir (d. 774 hijri), which is based off the Speech of the Lord of the universe, the sacred utterances of our Master Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the historical records that have been handed down to us from the pious sages of the past. Students are expected to take lessons from the trials, tribulations, and successes of the prophets of Allah and apply them to their own lives with the intention of increasing their faith, improving their character, and increasing in knowledge.

Fees: $35 for Members and $50 for non-Members
When: Thursdays (begins June 10th-End Date TBD) Between Maghrib (8:30) and Isha'a

Arabic 102: Intermediate Arabic Class
This class is a continuation of the summer Arabic 101 course. Kitab Nashai'een, an Intermediate Arabic Text will be covered.

Fees: $35 for Members and $50 for non-Members
When: Thursday's (begins January 26th-End Date TBD) 7pm - 8pm

Class Registration will Occur First Day of Class. No one will be turned away for lack of funds.

About the Instructor
Ali Ataie is the President and Founder of Muslim Interfaith Council and has been involved in interfaith activities for over ten years. He earned his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Cal Poly State University in 2000, during which time he served as the President of the Muslim Students' Association . He has been both a guest lecturer and guest instructor at several colleges and universities such as Cal Poly State , UC Davis , UC Berkeley, and Cal State East Bay . He studied various Islamic sciences under local Bay Area scholars and has dialogued and debated with several Christian scholars on a variety of topics ranging from the historicity of the resurrection (so-called) of Christ (upon whom be peace) and the Prophethood of Muhammad (upon whom be peace and blessings). He is a graduate of the Badr Arabic Language Institute in Hadramawt, Yemen and studied at the prestigious Dar al-Mustafa under some of the most eminent scholars in the world. He is currently a Masters' degree student at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA, majoring in Biblical Studies (the first Muslim seminarian in the 143 year history of the school to do so).
